The past year has presented extraordinary challenges to numerous wonderful arts organizations in Boston and beyond. Like many of its fellow performing arts groups, Boston Secession has felt the effects of the recession.
While attendance at Boston Secession concerts has grown steadily over the past two years and we have continued to receive critical acclaim, the challenge of fundraising in the current economy has made it necessary for Secession to suspend concert programming for the 2009-10 season. Instead, we will offer a series of choral workshops, expanding on our warmly received pilot workshop of May, 2009. Over the course of the next year, Boston Secession's Board of Directors will assess how the ensemble might resume performing in the future.
Boston Secession has been fortunate to have the support of many truly wonderful people during its twelve-year history. Our donors, subscribers, volunteers, musicians, and board members have contributed in so many ways to the ensemble's growth and success. On behalf of Jane Ring Frank and the entire organization, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you who have played a role in bringing superlative choral music to Boston for so many years.
As difficult as this decision has been for Secession, we feel that under the current economic conditions we are making a prudent choice. We will provide more information as it becomes available about our schedule of choral workshops and plans for the future. In the meantime, we are always happy to hear from you.
Thank you, once again, for your support for Boston Secession.
Boston Secession Board of Directors
