Lokomotywa

Ruth Lomon’s Testimony of Witnesses movement IV

Lokomotywa

Stoi na stacji lokomotywa
Ciezke, ogromma i pot z niej splywa:
Tlusta oliwa.
Stoi i sapie, dyszy i dmucha
Zar z rozgrzanego jej brzucha bucha:
Buch - jak goraco!
Uch “ “
Puff “ “
Uff “ “
Juz ledwo sapie, juz ledwo zipie
A jeszcze palacz wegiel w nia sypie.
Nagle - gwizdt Nagle – swist!!
Para -buch! Kola -w ruch!

Najpierw powoli jak zolw ociezale
Ruszyla maszyna po szynach ospale
Szarpnela wagony i ciagnie z mozolem
I kreci sie, kreci sie kola za kolem
I biegu przyspiesza, I gna coraz predzej
Locomotive

At the station stands a locomotive,
heavy, huge and sweat pours from her.
Thick with oil she stands and puffs,
heaves and blows. Hot coals explode
from her heated belly.
Buch (straining) jak goranco (nonsense words)
Uch “ “
Puff (lifting) “ “
Uff “ “
She hardly puffs and hardly breathes
Still the stoker shovels coal into her
Suddenly - gwizd! (sound of a whistle)
Suddenly – swist! (sound of wind whistling)
Steam – buch! (straining)
Kola w rush Wheels (let's move!)

At first slowly, like a turtle,
ploddingly moving along the rail, sleepily,
rattling cars and pulling with great effort weaving wheel by wheel picking up tempo
